GAMIFIED MS FORMS
I was wondering how you can implement a gamification project with zero budget. Using your imagination, you can find many tools that you can use to implement a gamified experience. Thanks to Microsoft Forms, I was able to create a knowledge-based competition. MS Forms is a flexible tool usually available if your organization uses Office 365. You can create surveys, forms, and also quizzes! Quizzes are an excellent way to create a fun competition with no budget.

For this quiz, the team requested content-related questions from knowledge-sharing event presenters. Participants needed to go back to content portals or the learning resources to answer the questions correctly. After the knowledge-sharing events, the quiz was released weekly to reinforce key takeaways and critical knowledge. Participants needed to score the best score in the minimum time possible to win the prize.

This gamified activity applied the intrinsic motivator of competition and knowledge-based status. Staff wanted to show how knowledgeable they were by winning the competition. Additionally, the design included some merchandise as an extrinsic incentive. However, the monetary value of this incentive was meaningless. Staff participated because of their will to compete against each other. Winners were featured in different communication pieces, increasing the value of the knowledge-based status element.

After analyzing data from the different content portals, the team noticed visits and unique user surges. The quiz also raised awareness of the availability of content resources on the intranet. A positive side-effect was to reuse and repurpose content relevant to staff performance. Staff learned new information as they completed the quiz.
Using MS Teams to create a competition was an effortless way of implementing a gamified experience for your organization. Showing results can ensure future buy-in from different sponsors, especially if you can connect the gamification impact to other business outcomes (such as content usage or learning impact).

Do not be shy and start to gamify! Learning does not need to be boring.
